Rutabaga Juicery & Eats was formed out of the idea that whole, minimally processed food doesn’t have to be inconvenient or hard to come by.
Stacey Fink and husband Jim Heywood were enamoured by how South Australian life was formed around the Adelaide Central Market, the heartbeat of the city’s central business district. The market shared a building with the largest grocery store chain in the nation, and yet the local purveyors didn’t just thrive, they were engrained in the Adelaidean’s daily life. Grabbing a meal made from local, fresh ingredients was available from not one, but many stalls nearly every day of the week. Access wasn’t even a topic of conversation because it just existed.
This was a harsh contrast to Stacey’s hometown in Maryland. It wasn’t long before they felt the void. Swallowed by fast food chains and unhealthy grab-and-go options in our major grocery chains made access to convenient healthy food seem impossible.
Rutabaga started as a husband/wife duo with only two employees when it began in 2015. It has since grown to 2 locations and 25 employees. And we aren’t stopping here.
Rutabaga Juicery & Eats strives to continue our evolution to make whole-ingredient, nutrient dense, plant-based food not only taste delicious, but to be as accessible as our fast food neighbors.
